Anonymous FTP Instructions

An anonymous FTP capability has been configured on the ac01 system. It allows anyone anywhere to download files which have been placed in the anonymous FTP public directory. Only users with accounts on ac01 are allowed to upload files to the directory.

Downloading Files

Files can be downloaded from the ENMU Anthropology anonymous FTP server either via a browser interface or using the ftp program directly.

To download using a browser:

  1. Enter ftp://ac01.enmu.edu/pub as the location URL (without the usual http: header)
  2. Move the mouse over the file of interest
  3. Right click to get a menu of options
  4. Select the appropriate option ("Save Link As..." under Netscape Navigator or "Copy to Folder" under Microsoft Explorer)
  5. Enter or select the destination name or directory

Uploading Files

You must have a login on the ac01.enmu.edu system to add files to the anonymous ftp public directory. See the system administrator to get an account or to reset your password. To upload a file:

  1. At a Unix or MSDOS command prompt, enter: ftp ac01.enmu.edu
  2. Enter your account name and password when prompted
  3. Enter: cd /home/ftp/pub
  4. Enter: binary
  5. Enter: put sourcefile targetfile where sourcefile is the name of the file on your system and targetfile is the name you want it to be called on the anonymous ftp server. If targetfile is omitted, it will be named the same as sourcefile.
  6. Enter: quit

The lcd command is available if you need to change the local path (i.e., the path on your system). The delete command may be used to delete the file. Contact the system administrator if you have any questions.
