Course Prerequisite: Chemistry 151 or equivalent and college algebra (see appendix A from textbook)

Course requirements: Calculator (non programmable) and know how to use it, including how to compute logs and antilogs, and use scientific notation

Text Book: ``Chemistry The Central Science, 9th Ed.'' by T. L. Brown, LeMay and Bursten (you can probaly do okay with an older edition that you can purchase on the internet, e.g., http://used.addall.com)

Alternative Text books: ``General Chemistry'' by John B. Russell (on reserve in library) and ``Chemistry'' Zumdahl

Grading: A total of seven quizzes will be given, every two weeks and usually on Wednesdays. There will be no make-up quizzes, even for valid excuses; instead, the lowest two scores will be dropped. (An exception is given to athletes for athletic events, but athletes must report to the instructor in writing the classes that will missed during the semester no later than the first week of class.) The 5 quizzes yield 70% of the final grade. The final is comprehensive and counts 30%. The quizzes, for the most part, will be multiple choice and/or short answers.

$\bullet$ The final can count 100% of the final grade, if that raises the grade. However, since the final is comprehensive, it maybe more difficult, so do not count on this to pull up your grade.

$\bullet$ Grades use the following curve: A=100-90, B=89-80, C=79-70, D=69-60, F=below 60%.

Material covered (chapters): gases (10), thermochemistry (5 & 19), molecurlar orbital theory (9.7 and 9.8), chemical equilibrium (15), acid-base equilibrium and solubility (16 & 17), intermolecular forces (11), electrochemistry (20), kinetics (14), organic chemistry (25), nuclear (21), and perhaps, a few others.
