T. L. Brown et. al. (8th Ed. is probably okay)
Dress Code: SAFETY GLASSES WITH SPLASH GUARDS ARE REQUIRED BY STATE LAW. Long pants or other clothing that cover well below the knees are also required. Sandals, shorts, halter tops, etc. are not allowed in the laboratories, unless covered by a lab coat. These requirements give the necessary protection from the various hazardous materials that will be used. No exceptions will be made. Students who do not follow safety protocol - especially by not wearing safety glasses or wearing proper attire - will be asked to leave the laboratory and will receive 0 points.
Lab Grades: 40% of the grade is determined from the lab report, results, and/or questions that are due after completing each laboratory experiment. A quiz will be given at the beginning of each laboratory session and will count 40%. 10% will come from the final exam. 10% will come from laboratory skills and competence in performing the experiments.
Pre-Lab work: Students must have some general knowledge of the experiment before coming to the laboratory. This information is provided by the T.A. one week before (in a short lecture), by reading the assigned experiment from the laboratory manual, and by doing the assigned pre-lab problems. Students without sufficient knowledge to carry out the experiment may be asked to leave the laboratory and will receive 0 points.
Housekeeping: It is the students responsibility to keep a clean work place and return materials to the designated areas in the laboratory. Occasionally, students will also be assigned cleaning responsibilities for shared work areas. Students must also use proper laboratory procedures when disposing reagents to avoid contaminations. If you are unsure about disposing of something, ask the teaching assistant.
Absences: Every lab is important. A student with more than three unexcused absences must withdraw from the lab or receive an ``F'' grade.
